The event may be called “Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh”, but Louis Vuitton didn’t send a pair of shoes for the occasion, instead hiring Virgil Abloh himself who made the sneakers in his studio. The legendary designer left his mark on the kicks through a series of inscriptions, including one that reads “Create your own story,” and another that reads “Virgil Abloh”, which is printed in multiple languages. The sneakers are designed to be worn by both men and women, with each featuring an all black upper complete with a gradient colored panel underneath.

It is not often that one gets to see a fashion house as old and respected as Louis Vuitton re-think its design philosophy. The brand, which has been with us for over two centuries now, took a leap of faith late last year. It re-imagined the Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh and called it their own. Virgil Abloh himself then took this opportunity to make his mark at the legendary French label by designing the shoes in his studio. When you first look at them, you would know that they are something different from your typical sneakers. They have a certain old school feel about them.

As the story goes, Vuitton took the inspiration to create a pair of sneakers from Nike Air Force 1 in its October 2018 exhibition, which was called ‘The Great Indoors.’ It would be interesting to know if they were inspired by Warhol’s Xerox artwork exhibit that took place in 2015 as well. This is where we find out many design house’s collections rarely come up with something new and unique. They most often recycle and repackage existing trends or bring back vintage pieces that are pretty much out of fashion.
