Fortnite Players to Receive Over $126 Million in Second Round of FTC Refunds

Epic Games/Fortnite

Players of Epic Games’ blockbuster title Fortnite will receive more than $126 million in refunds from the Federal Trade Commission after being charged for unwanted in-game purchases, according to a government announcement on Wednesday.

The new round of payments follows the FTC’s broader case against Epic Games regarding deceptive billing practices, a dispute that was settled in December 2022. At that time, Epic agreed to pay $245 million to resolve accusations that it had tricked players into making unintended purchases through manipulative design.

In December 2024, the FTC issued the first round of compensation, distributing more than $72 million across 629,344 payments. The second round, scheduled for June 25 and 26, will distribute 969,173 checks and PayPal payments to players who filed a valid claim. Consumers who selected a check as their payment method are advised to cash it within 90 days, while those receiving PayPal funds should redeem their payments within 30 days.

Additionally, the FTC has reopened its claims process to allow more eligible Fortnite players—and their parents or guardians—to apply for compensation. According to the agency, new claims can be submitted until July 9, 2025, through www.ftc.gov/fortnite.

An Epic Games spokesperson declined to comment Thursday, referring back to Epic’s original statement published at the time of the 2022 settlement.
